Function Around, Find Out

A handout for Advanced Combinatorics, in which students explore first the number of ways to place balls into boxes under one case of distinguishability of balls and boxes and then explore one type of function with various distinguishability conditions. 

Perspectives of an Elephant

The first activity for the January Term short course A, B, D, Easy as 1, 2, 3. In the first three pages, students explore three distinct perspectives of permutations: as bijections from a set of numbered blanks to a set of numbered balls, as rigid symmetries of a regular triangle, and as matrices. The last three pages include extensions of each perspective.
